The Pink Moon🌝 Phenomenon(IAS / CIVIL SERVICES )
A Pink Moon is set to light up the night sky tonight, as well as last night, but the name is deceiving. Despite being called as such, the Moon will not actually be pink and will simply take on its usual creamy white hue. According to the Old Farmers’ Almanac, Native American tribes endowed each full Moon with a name which represents the season or time of the year.Because each tribe had its own traditions, it is also called the Egg Moon, Sprouting Grass Moon, Hare Moon, or Fish Moon.
The full Moon will be at perigee-syzygy, meaning it will be closest to the Earth — 221,772 miles (356,907 kilometers) away — and the Earth, moon and sun will all align. This means that when a the moon is at perigee-syzygy, it will look larger and brighter than usual. But, because perigee-syzygy isn't that catchy, the term "supremoon" came about and this particular full moon was additionally nicknamed the "Super Pink Moon."
